Devastatingly Interesting

I've been tagged. Holly at 2 kids and tired, tagged me. Check out her site, as she's an incredibly cool mom. I've never been tagged several times before, but it seems like fun, so here goes. I'm supposed to share some facts about me: some random, some weird ... all devastatingly interesting.

1. I am socially uncomfortable. I spend most of my social time just on the edge of the social cirles. I love to be around people and hear the conversations. I am just painfully awkward unless I know a few of the people there very well.

2. I am husband is a deer hunter. Yes, every October he spends every weekend in the woods trying to kill the "monster" buck. The one thing wrong with that is the big ones taste so gamey, Yuck!!

3. I am a baker! I love to bake anything but especially cheese cake. My kids compare everyone elses cookies and cakes to mine, I love it. If we go to a family reunion or a church event the my kids all ask which one I brought so they can eat it. I am not fabulous but can hold my own.

4. I love romantic movies, the sappier the better. I really like old movies. Anything from the 40's, 50's and early 60's. I like Doris Day, Cary Grant, Rock Hudson, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to name a few.

5. My dad has Parkinson's Disease, I know that is not about me but it is shaping me. It is hard to watch someone you love suffer and loose mobility. Just a few years ago he was a master carpenter, active grandpa and friend to anyone needing help. Now he is all of those things in a body that limits him. His mind has not left and is as brilliant as ever but his hands tremble and voice is quieter. It is heart breaking to realize that it only gets worse from here....

I'm tagging the following:
TRB
Bre
Jen
Dizzy Dias Days
Mom not Mum
living in spin cycle

The rules are:
1. Link to my tagger and post these rules,
2. Facts about me: some random, some weird ... all devastatingly interesting.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of my post and list their names (linking to them)
4. Let them know they've been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

Speaking of Judy Garland, there is an exciting and popular group on Yahoo called the Judy Garland Experience. The group features ultra rare audio files that are frequently changed. This week they have Judy and Count Basie's complete July, 1968 concert from JFK Stadium, a multi part audio biography on Garland, episodes of The Bing Crosby Show Featuring Judy, phone calls, random rare songs, and loads of other fascinating sound bites (including a rare 1977 Forest Hills concert performance of Frank Sinatra's. Why is there a Frank Sinatra concert posted on a Judy group you ask? You will just have to join to find out).
The group also has dozens of photo albums filled with the rarest pictures of Judy found anywhere. The membership to the group includes other celebrities, Garland family members, historians, authors, as well as people who have made films about Judy, and the most diverse cross section of Judy Garland fans anywhere. The only thing missing is you!
Be sure to stop by our little Judyville and check it out, you may never want to leave!

Hi, Inga,

You have a most interesting blog - got yours on a "Google Alert" for Doris Day. My prayers are with you and your Dad and family.

You mentioned that you like Doris Day. I was her personal secretary during the 70s when she was filming "The Doris Day Show" at CBS. Had been a fan since age 10 and had my 'eye on the prize' and eventually made my way to Los Angeles. Through a series of events and surviving a near fatal car accident, Doris invited me into her world as her personal secretary and later moved in with her for well over a year. Talk about a dream come true! She is a wonderful, fun-loving person and we had great times, now great memories. My odyssey to Hollywood has many never-before-told stories and photos of Doris, who has recently been voted the most loved and best movie star of all time.

My book is coming out in 18 days from Hawthorne Publishing on October 7th:

DAY AT A TIME
An Indiana Girl's Sentimental Journey to Doris Day's Hollywood and Beyond

www.hawthornepub.com

Unlike many books written about her which deal mainly with her career, mine takes the reader up-close and personal to what it was like to be a friend to and live with America's Sweetheart, Doris Day.

Just thought you might want to be one of the first to know about this exciting new book about a real screen legend and the young girl who became her friend.

Wow: a cool mom? Thanks for the compliment!

I'm often on the edge of social circles too. If there is a kitchen nearby I migrate there and help do dishes.

I'm sorry about your dad. It's hard to watch them go through such suffering.

I am the same with #1. I am not a shy person but I just have a hard time breaking in. I've got another meme in the wings but I will get to this one in due time.

Oh and I'm like Holly. I'm the first one to jump in to give anyone a hand. You need set up, clean up, filling drinks, washing hands - whatever it is I am right there. Hey, maybe we can all hang out in the kitchen together?
